First Post and First Finish of this Year

Well it took me a bit longer to finish this quilt and then take some photos than I thought it would. But I'm so happy to get it all quilted and bound. It's ready to add the label before I wash it.  I have a hard time adding a real label for my quilts. I've made several and didn't. There was only one I did recently where I just signed my first name. On another I put the recipients name and then a couple I put some generic premade cutesy labels. I don't know why I have such a hard time doing that.  I always find it interesting on the quilts of others and even look for it.  So I must improve on that.  I'm working on the label now:) Thanks for stopping by!

A Finished Guy Quilt

I decided to make a lap quilt for my dad a few months ago.  It took me a long time to find an appropriate fabric that would fit his style.  I was excited to find the Retro Riders line from Windham. He really likes that particular shade of orange . It was discontinued but I was able to still find fat quarters and yardage from different online shops. The inspiration for the layout was from the manufacturer's website. I planned on using that pattern without any changes but found that the specs were off when I started cutting
and so had to modify it.  I ended up really liking the changes. I backed it with a nice gray flannel from Maywood, it has such a nice feel. My dad really likes it and keeps it on the seat in his truck. So that makes me happy.

Lotsa Projects

It has been quite sometime since I've quilted.  I kept my interest up with perusing the latest magazines and books.  And I have eagerly checked online for the newest fabric releases for eye candy.  But I just couldn't get going again. I do have a lot of other artsy craftsy interests too but wasn't doing much with that either.  But reading all of these blogs has been so fun and inspirational. In the past month or so I've sewed a lot and have thoroughly enjoyed it, I forgot what it felt like! Finishing a project has been huge in the past for me. I LOVE Anna Maria Horner's Dowry line. I wanted to showcase the roses in each block. I decided to make this quilt a lot bigger it's turning out better than I anticipated. Lotsa blocks to go!

The other 9 blocks with fabric from Riley Blake's Farm Fresh are going to be for a lap quilt for my grandma.  She lived on a farm most of her life and I had 2 of these layer cakes saved for 3 years or so before I just now  did something with them.

I especially love the piggy! My grandparents raised pigs on the farm so I think she'll really like the 3 in this quilt:)
I plan on finishing this one in the next few days. I plan to add sashing tomorrow.
I also started a bed quilt for my Mom. I made her a lap quilt about 5 years ago and she uses that all the time. I finished a section on that but it's underneath the blocks for my Grandma so I'll have to take pics of that soon.
